My word to ENGINEERS (CST 2012 graduates)

Photo from: orchardcards.co.uk
Congratulations to 2012-graduates of College of Science and Technology (CST). We are really proud to have one more batch of competent engineers. I foresee you all proving the quality and worthiness of CST. I feel much relieved to think about you all. It is now crucial time in your life. I am sure at this point of  life, you will have mixed feelings. Excited-nervous and saddened to loose those friends with whom you spent four to six of your formative years.
I just wanted to tell you that the career choice once made is, in fact, irreversible. So, I request all of you to make your choices meticulously. Don’t be simply lured towards fleeting (momentary) incentives. Take the best decision. I don’t have expertise knowledge or much experience to guide you all but still, I can’t hold my intentions to let you know, at least some facts I have come across by just graduating a year earlier than you.

It may be good to consult seniors, friends, relatives or anybody but I tell you all not to listen to anyone’s suggestions. It is you who is going to succeed or fail. We all know that as an individual, our perspectives vary. As has quoted, “one man’s meat is other man’s poison”, the best job for one may be the worst for other.

Luckily or unluckily, my appointment day for RCSC and Drukair fell on the consecutive days. I really had tough time choosing one. Seriously, it was most  dilemmatic day in my life. I was aware that, my mistake would cost me my entire career. So I have consulted many people about it. I have learnt many things and my career-eyes were widely opened. I understood that mostly, if we ask people who are well established or well-off, they are for glory, post and reputation. They are least concerned about pecuniary matters. If we ask people from humble backgrounds, their primary preference would be towards monetary benefits and of course other aspects are also there. But, mind you, it is not universal truth-just few conclusions.
No matter how philosophical or ambitious you are, money is always important these days. Money talks and it works if used in certain controlled ways. But, at the same time, money should not be our primary career goal. If not wisely used, it can make our life less valuable. It is, in this way: when you have it you spend it and temporary luxury is created, when we don’t have, we don’t really need it. As such, it should not govern our lives. The first few years of your career should be focused on establishing firm base towards enhancing in your field of interest. Quite often, people regret after joining the job. They get bored and demotivated with things they do. It is indeed, worst part of being in the job.
Please make proper judgments before joining any sector, be it Private, Corporation or Govt. You have to strongly consider your inherent interest(s). What type of job environment or work elates you? Don’t jump before knowing how safe are you going to land. Career choice should be deliberate and never by chance or by fate.
I request you to ask these few questions; where do you want to see yourself within next  5-10 years? The sector(s) you are interested to join have that platform to showcase your talents or widen the scope of your interests? Please try to dig out the true job responsibilities (job nature), always be inquisitive to know upcoming master plans or projects and ask yourself do you relish doing it. Also know exactly in what type of environment you are going to work and ask yourself, will you like being in such type of environment? Will you be advancing in any way towards your long term goals by being in particular  company? And, definitely, many other questions I am not aware of.
Once you made up your mind, never compare with other sectors/companies. Different companies have their own ways of doing things. NEVER COMPARE. Stay focused on your own opportunities at your company and rewardingly you will be surely motivated to work. Our life is how we make it. It is in us to mastermind our lives. So be the best always. Be optimistic and contention after making choice is always must.
I am not claiming to be career expert in writing so but just wanted to share my realizations of past few months. I am sure, some of you may agree and some may not with my opinions. Most you might have better contents than mine, I always concede that, but if you agree please take it.
Actually I wanted to share many things but due to lack of my articulation skills I am obligated to share only few in a little  disorganized way.
Good luck and mistakes are under your correction, just in case, if committed in the mist of oblivion.
